Good Earth Lighting Announces the Passing of Its Co-Founder Marvin Feig

Mount Prospect, Ill.-based Good Earth Lighting has announced the passing of its co-founder and former President, Marvin Feig, on February 19 at the age of 78. Feig founded Good Earth Lighting in 1992 with co-founder and VP/Research & Development Alex Kowalenko.
Good Earth Lighting’s mission at its founding according to Marvin was to “develop and provide a decorative line of energy-efficient residential products with compact fluorescent lighting technology.”
The company sold its first energy-efficient light fixture to True Value Hardware. The company soon expanded its product lines and partnered with more retailers as it worked to meet the increasing consumer demand for more affordable, customizable, energy-efficient products. When LED technology became more widely available, the co-founders converted the company’s product lines and set the industry course for energy-efficient residential lighting products. In 2016, Good Earth Lighting launched long-lasting USB rechargeable and battery-operated solutions and partnered with Command™ Strips from 3M for damage-free mounting solutions.
In 2022, Feig sold the company to his executive team, whom he called “the dream team” — four industry veterans who each had more than 30 years’ experience with global brands in the lighting, retail, and hardware industries. Feig continued to serve as president of the company, whose owners consist of VP/Marketing & Product Development Brian Coleman, VP/Sales Greg Forrest, VP/Engineering & Global Operations Chris Serak, and Chief Financial Officer T.R. Turner.
“A proven innovator and inspiring leader, Marvin’s energy and entrepreneurial spirit drove him to create and grow a leading lighting company that remains at the forefront of the residential lighting fixture industry,” Coleman said. “He was an incredible force that drove the company he co-founded to a long track record of success over several decades. We’re very grateful for, and proud of, everything Marvin contributed to Good Earth Lighting.”
Now in its 33rd year, Good Earth Lighting has produced millions of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures under Good Earth® and ecolight® brands. The company’s products are sold in the U.S. and Canada via major retailers.
“On behalf of the executive team and our dedicated employees, Marvin will be sorely missed. He leaves behind an enviable legacy of innovation and excellence that our company will continue to carry on in the years ahead,” Coleman added.
