IESNYC Announces Service Awards for 2023

The Illuminating Engineering Society of New York City (IESNYC) proudly acknowledges and honors outstanding individuals through its esteemed Service Awards program. These awards recognize the dedication, service, and significant contributions of individuals who have tirelessly worked to advance the mission and success of the IESNYC and the lighting community at large.

“So many people are dedicated to making the IESNYC a success,” said Mike Barr, IESNYC Board Member and Nominations & Awards Committee Chair (Lutron). “This year our recipients further exemplify why New York’s lighting community is so very vibrant and fortunate to have so many who work so hard to support the IESNYC.”

The 2023 IESNYC Service Awards were presented as part of the prestigious Lumen Awards Gala on June 15 showcasing the exemplary achievements of the following recipients:

IESNYC Special Recognition Award: Linda Miller

Linda has been instrumental in promoting the IESNYC’s public relations initiatives and establishing strong relationships with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Open House New York (OHNY). Her tireless efforts have helped our section grow and thrive, attracting numerous new members. With her outstanding commitment, Linda has truly earned this special recognition.

IES Section Service Award: Melissa Goren

Melissa’s invaluable contributions extend beyond our section to the broader lighting community. She has actively participated in various IESNYC programs, served on the board, and dedicated her time to the success of the annual sponsorship campaign. Melissa’s commitment and support have been instrumental in advancing our initiatives, and we are proud to present her with the IES Section Service Award.

IESNYC Special Recognition Award: Jordan Cohen

Behind the scenes, Jordan has played a crucial role in organizing the IESNYC Lumen Gala, ensuring its success since 2015. His dedication has transformed our Afterglow celebration into a captivating showcase of the power of lighting. We applaud Jordan for his exceptional contribution and recognize him with this special award.

IESNYC Golden Achievement Award: Domingo González

Domingo’s outstanding work as president of his high-profile design team in New York City and beyond has earned him this prestigious award. His willingness to share his expertise through presentations at the IESNYC monthly programs and Open House New York has helped promote the importance of exceptional lighting design. We congratulate Domingo on this well-deserved achievement.

IESNYC Brilliance Award: Michael Hennes

Michael’s significant service to both the IESNYC section and the lighting community is commendable. As the IES representative to the DOE CALiPER Guidance Committee, he has been a passionate advocate for good lighting practices. Through project visits and active participation in events like Open House New York, Michael has consistently demonstrated his commitment to excellence in lighting design. We applaud him for his brilliance and contributions.

IESNYC Golden Achievement Award: Caleb McKenzie

Caleb’s dedication and long-standing commitment to the IESNYC section make him a truly deserving recipient of the Golden Achievement Award. With numerous roles and responsibilities over the years, including serving as our 92nd president, Caleb has demonstrated unwavering passion for excellence. His leadership, involvement in scholarship endeavors, and active participation in various committees have made a lasting impact on our community.
